Carbon Capture and Storage

Global interest in carbon capture and storage (CCS) is rapidly increasing as it provides key means to mitigate climate change while maintaining energy supply and the production of essential materials. A significant part of the expertise that would be required to capture, utilize and store CO2 is readily available in the oil and gas industry. Given that gas injection is commonly used in enhanced oil and gas recovery (EOR/EGR) techniques and/or to maintain pressure in hydrocarbon reservoirs, the injection of CO2  clearly has direct economic implications for future assets development.

North Africa Oil & Gas Integrated Solutions can guide you through the full lifecycle of your CO2 EOR, EGR and CCS projects. Our multidisciplinary integrated team can advise you on the selection of appropriate CCS scenarios and (or) ensure optimized production from your assets.

Our evaluation considers subsurface fluids, aquifer and formation properties, petrology and mineralogy, as well as surface facilities. Typical study elements, which can be utilized as required, include the following elements:

  • Identification of potential CO2 storage sites including database creation and management leading in support of feasibility assessment.
  • Subsurface mapping and modelling of structural traps and tectonic influences, (including seismic processing and interpretation, reservoir characterization and geological 3D modelling)
  • Development of coupled multicomponent dynamic models to predict different trapping mechanisms (structural and stratigraphic, residual, solubility and geochemical trapping) and optimize CO2 injection.
  • Testing and modelling phase behaviour of CO2 mixed with water (and hydrocarbons).
  • Cap rock integrity Geomechanical appraisal.
  • Define well injectivity, well planning and complete well delivery solutions.
  • Risk assessment (including separation from potable aquifers and well integrity analysis).
